Project Description: Sunrise Donuts  Logo

Client: Christchurch Rotary Club

Project Overview:

Daniel Price Art & Design was approached by a member to come up with a new logo for a donut cart that the Christchurch Rotary club had acquired for social enterprise fundraisers. A referral via St. Christopher's Church. This was to appear on associated signage and material advertising the cart. This job was done pro-bono as a donation to the club, and a gesture of goodwill towards the Rotary Club and the excellent work they do for communities.

Design Challenge:

Provided with name for the cart: Sunrise Donuts, and a requirement for one of the main colours to be pink (the cart is pink). The logo needed to evoke community and a certain degree of hominess. While also being representative of the products being produced

Creative Solution:

Using the very recognizable branding of Edmonds (a kiwi staple) as inspiration. A simple composition was formulated, using an illustrated donut and rays meant to represent a sunrise. The pink was represented in the name displayed underneath the graphics. For this project, a slight amount of detail in the illustrations was encouraged by the client, as the logo did not need to be as fast or widely commercially produced / accessible as most branding. So care to add a bit to the illustrative element was taken. The effect of this has been a logo that feels a bit more community-centered and friendly.

Project Results:

The logo is still presently used, especially on the Rotary Club website, in association with the donut cart. The client appears to get strong community engagement with the brand.
