Client: Ōtamahua / Quail Island Ecological Restoration Trust

Project Overview:

In 2019, the Ōtamahua / Quail Island Ecological Restoration Trust requested a graphic to be made to acknowledge the sponsorship and support that the restaurants Formaggio's and Tutto Bene provided to them and their work on the island. The intention was that these would be a graphic that could be hung up in a physical medium within the restaurants to display and acknowledge their philanthropic support.

Design Challenge:

The idea was to get it printed onto a special pizza box lid, which would be displayed in the restaurant. As well as special requests to use a particular map of the island. The project had to include the logos for either restaurant and that for the Quail Island Trust, as well as be styled in such a way that it would suit the style of both restaurants and the intended presentation substrate.

Creative Solution:

The project canvas was sized to that of a large pizza box, and used the provided map as a base by isolating the graphics. A design was developed in close correspondence with both Quail Island Trust, and the owner of the two restaurants - ensuring that the final result would be something that the owner would be proud to display, and reflective of the amicable history between the two parties (the Trust and the restaurants). It was styled in a way reminiscent of historical maps would - alluding both to the history of the Island, as well as drawing the link with a long standing relationship with Tutto Bene / Formaggio's. With a limited colour palette in order to maximize and facilitate the effectiveness on a potential cardboard medium.

Project Results:

A design consensus was reached in which the client party and recipient part were happy and approved the final designs. These pieces now serve as a way to commemorate a long-standing relationship and support between Tutto Bene & Formaggio's and the Quail Island Trust.
